WTA Mutual Madrid Open - Day three

Day three of the Madrid Open and Agnieszka Radwanka beat Eugenie Bouchard in straight sets.

This was a good win for Aga against Eugenie a player I see winning a Grand Slam in the not too distant future.

Ni La beat Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets and this was a good solid win for Ni La who hoping to at least make it to the final.

The surprise is of the day was Sam Stosur beating Dominika Cibulkova in straight  sets. Dominika had a fairly good hard court season so was expecting her to do reasonably well, maybe she has not adjusted to the clay yet.

Premiership review - 3rd/4th/5th May 2014

In the weekend premiership games Manchester City beat Everton by three goals to two.

It was a very competitive match but Manchester City seems to have that extra gear to score more goals and get the important win.

Sunderland  beat Manchester United by one goal to nil. This was shock result as I did not expect Sunderland to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Arsenal beat West Bromwich Albion beat one goal to nil and it was a good win. Arsenal players are showing that they are trying to end the season on the high and preparing themselves for the FA Cup final.

Chelsea drew nil nil with Norwich at home and this was a shock result as well.  If Chelsea had won they would have gone top. This draw may have cost them possibility of winning the league.

Liverpool drew three all with Crystal Palace and this after Liverpool went three nil up and somehow managed to throw away three goal lead.

A Liverpool win would have have meant that they would have won the title. Now they have to hope that Man City trip up and give the advantage back to them.

So this means the last couple of games for this season should be exciting as the destination of this year trophy is still undecided.

Premiership review - 26th/27th/28th April 2014

In the weekend's premiership games Manchester United with Ryan Giggs as Manager beat Norwich City by four goals to nil.

This was the kind of win the Man United needed as they move forward and plan for next season and the reality of not playing any European games sinks in.

Manchester City beat Crystal Palace by two goals to nil and this win kept Manchester City in the title race.

The shock of the weekend was Chelsea beating Liverpool by two goals to nil. Some sports pundits had been predicting that Liverpool where going to win the title by beating Chelsea.

However Chelsea managed to put Liverpool potential title win on hold by beating them at Anfield.

Chelsea win at Liverpool means that the title race is still open and it could be decided on the final day.

In last nights evening game, Arsenal beat Newcastle by three goals to nil. This was a good win for Arsenal who still need to secure fourth place to ensure they can play in next season Champions League.

Arsenal played reasonably well in most parts but where helped by the fact that Newcastle played badly.

Normally Arsenal/Newcastle games are very competitive and there are normally lots of goals.

It was a bit of a surprise on how badly Newcastle played but relieved that Arsenal secured all three points.

Premiership review - 19th/20th April 2014

In the weekend Premiership games Arsenal beat Hull City by three goals to nil. It was a pretty convincing win and Arsenal where able to play there free flowing football style.

Arsenal fans will probably be wondering where this free flowing football has been. Arsenal's lack of consistency is why they are fighting for fourth place as opposed to challenging for the title.

Liverpool beat Norwich City by three goals to two and this has helped them to maintain there position at the top of the league.

The shock of the weekend was Chelsea losing at home to Sunderland. Sunderland beat Chelsea by two goals to one and this means that Chelsea are now five points behind Liverpool with three games to go.

Elsewhere Everton beat Manchester United by two goals to nil and David Moyes was subsequently sacked as Man United manager.

This loss means that it is highly unlikely that Man United will play any European games next season.

Manchester City beat West Brom by three goals to one and this means that with three games to go there still a possibility of them winning the title.

So Liverpool are top of the league and sitting pretty and if they beat Chelsea at home in the next match they will probably win the title.

Premiership review - 15th/16th April 2014

In the midweek premiership games Arsenal beat West Ham by three goals to one.

It was a very important win for Arsenal as they desperately needs to win all their remaining games to hold on to fourth place.

Arsenal started off a little nervously but slowly but surely grew in confidence and began to play their a free flowing pass game.

West Ham started off well but once Arsenal scored the equaliser they were unable to their level and lost the game.

Elsewhere Manchester City drew two all with Sunderland in the game that I expected them to win.

This has dented their chance of winning the premiership as they only have about five games to play.

So Liverpool are comfortably at the top of the league and it theirs to win or to lose.

Premiership review - 13th April 2014

In yesterday Premiership games Liverpool beat Manchester City by three goals to two and it was a real topsy turvy match.

Liverpool quickly scored two goals but then Manchester City managed to pull it back to two all.

I thought this was how the match was going to end but somehow Liverpool managed to get that winning goal!

This means if Liverpool win their next four  games the title is theirs. For Manchester City this would have been a bitter loss after getting themselves back into the game.

They now have to hope that either Liverpool or Chelsea slip up to have any chance of winning the title.

Elsewhere Chelsea beat Swansea City by a goal to nil and this result keeps them in second and they still have a great chance of winning the title.

FA Cup review - 12th/13th April 2014

In this weekends FA Cup games Arsenal narrowly beat Wigan on penalties to make it to the final.

This game was on the back off Arsenal recent three nil loss to Everton. So Arsenal played in a very cautious approach and where worried about conceding.

However once Wigan went one nil up all of the sudden Arsenal's previous cautious attitude went out of the window and they became a lot more of an attacking force.

This approach helped Arsenal to get the equaliser but it took the penalty shoot out  of them to go through.

Wigan played well and they did all they could to win the game but they came up short in the penalty shoot out. When their first two penalty shots where saved by Lukas Fabianski.

Arsene Wenger will be a very relieved manager and he knew that if he lost this game that would have probably been the end of his time as an Arsenal Manager.

He started off playing with a much more attacking team and even put Olivier Giroud on the bench. He brought on Giroud as a sub and he was much more effective.

So Arsenal are through and they will play Hull City who beat Sheffield United by three goals to two to make it to the final.
