This was a significant victory as Newcastle have been a top five side this season. So for Arsenal to beat them at St James's Park is pretty good.
This win also meant that Arsenal are now top of the league before the New Years Day fixtures.
Elsewhere Chelsea beat Liverpool by two goals to one. This was Liverpool second loss in four days.
However all Liverpool need to do is to get two or three wins and they back in contention.
