Rogers Cup - Montreal - Day three

Day three of the Rogers Cup and Heather Watson beat Dominika Cibulkova in three sets. It was another up and down match for Heather she could have closed it out in two sets but threw away a three game advantage and had to win in a third set tie break.

I am hoping this is down to Heather's inexperience of tier one tennis and she will learn how to close out matches in straight sets.

Venus Williams beat Yulia Putintseva in straight sets and it took a little while for Venus to handle Yulia "moon balls" but once Venus found her rhythm she was smacking the moons balls away and getting winners.

Jelena Jankovic beat Sloane Stephens in three sets and Sloane had been playing reasonably well. But I think she lacks those killer instincts to win a tier one title.

Serena Williams beat Samantha Stosur in straight sets and it was a real demolition job by Serena who took apart Sam's game whilst in second gear.

It was a little embarrasing to watching considering Sam only beat Serena in the US Open final three years ago.

Angelique Kerber beat Caroline Garcia in straight sets and Anglique has been in some fine form and plays Venus Williams next.

Wimbledon - Day two

Day two at Wimbledon and Serena Williams beat Anna Tashivilli in straight sets and this was quite a routine win for Serena has adapted nicely to the grass.

Maria Sharapova beat Samantha Murray in straight sets and although the score line would suggest that it was routine win. Maria really struggled with her serve committing three double faults in the first game.

Maria was rather fortunate to be playing someone that was unable to take advantage of her serving problems and went on to win the second set and the match.

Britain's Heather Watson beat Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets and this was good win for Heather. Heather struggled on her serve and was holding on but managed to close it out in straight sets.

The surprise of the day was Caroline Garcia beating Sara Errani in three sets. Caroline has had a good year but it's good to see that her game can be played well on all surfaces.

In the men 's draw Roger Federer beat Paolo Lorenzi in straight sets. This was a routine first round win for Roger as he aims to win his eighth Wimbledon title.

Stan Wawrinka beat Joao Sousa in straight sets and it was a routine win for Stan who always seems have a bit more than Joao.

French Open - day three

Day three of the French Open was eventful and in the women's draw Sloane Stephens beat Shuai Peng in straight sets.

Sloane has had some real tough losses recently but I am convinced that she is only really motivated for Grand Slam tournaments and hence why she is able to pick up her level and get routine wins.

Ana Ivanovic beat Caroline Garcia in straight sets and this was a very good win for Ana as Caroline has been playing well on the clay.

The shock result of the day was Ni La losing to Kristina Mladenovic in three sets.

I thought that Ni La was going to do quite well and I thought she would at least make it to the semi-finals.

So this was a huge surprise and has certainly opened up the bottom half the draw.

In the men's draw Andy Murray beat Andrey Golubev in four sets. Andy was doing well then lost his concentration but regained it quickly enough to win the fourth set and the match.

Another surprise result was Ivo Karlovic beating Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets. It was a close match but Ivo seemed to have the edge when it came to big the points.

Mutua Madrid Open - Day seven

Day seven and quarter finals day at the Madrid Open and Serena Williams pulled out and this means that Petra Kivitova went straight through to the semi-finals.

Serena's has been struggling with a thigh injury and was quite heavily strapped in her previous matches. So it did not come has too much of a suprise that she was unable to continue.

Agnieszka Radwanka beat Caroline Garcia in three sets and it was a real tough match for Aga who won this match  by the smallest of margins.

Maria Sharapova beat Ni La in three sets and it was a match of high quality tennis that could have gone either way. However Maria was able to dig deep and win the third set and the match.

Mutua Madrid Open - Day six

Day six at the Madrid Open and Caroline Garcia beat Sara Errani in three sets and this was a good win for Caroline who has had a stelar year so far.

If Caroline carries on recording wins like these she will be in the top twenty before the end of the year.

Simona Halep beat Sabine Lisicki in three sets and although Simona is the higher ranked player I thought it was a match that Sabine was going to win.

Agnieszka Radwanska beat Roberta Vinci in straight sets and this was good win for Aga who is hoping to win her first WTA title of the year.

Serena Willliams beat Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets and it was a good win for Serena against Carla who has a good record on the clay.

Ni La beat Sloane Stephens in three sets and it was always going to be a tough match for Sloane.

Sloane played a lot better than I imagined  especially as she has been really struggling recently.

Elsewhere both Maria Sharapova and Petra Kivitova recorded wins to move to the quarter finals.

Miami Open - Day five

Day five in the Miami Open and Serena Willliams beat Caroline Garcia in a titanic three set victory.

Serena had to dig really deep to put away twent year old Caroline. In the end I think Serena's experience at this stage is what probably helped her to close our the match and win.

Coco Vanderweghe beat Samantha Stosur in anther titanic three set match. This was a surprised as I thought Samantha was going to win this match.

Coco played well at the key points and was able to win the games and the match.

US Open - day three

Day three at the US Open was filled with highs and lows.

The main disappointment was Venus Williams losing in three sets to Jie Zheng.  Venus really played her heart out and could  not have done much more and I think she just run out of energy.

The match was three hours and two minutes which would have been really draining especially with the medical condition Venus has so to me she did very well.

Andy Murray beat Michel Llodra in straight sets and Andy played well and completed the match in about two hours which good as there will be tougher matches to come.

Laura Robson did well to beat Caroline Garcia in straight sets as her wrist was troubling her. She now plays Na Li in the third round which will be a much tougher match.
