World Cup - Day two

Day two of the World Cup and Mexico beat Cameroon by a goal to nil. I was not too surprised as Cameroon do not have the players they once had.

Mexico have been getting good results recently and plus they have a fantastic fan base which helped to keep them motivated and focused.

The shock of the day was The Netherlands beating Spain by five goals to one. It was very embarrasing to wach Spain been humiliated on the world
stage.

On top of that they gave away some really bad goals due to poor defending and goalkeeping. What was most surprising is there manager Del Bosque did not play Santi Carzola at all.

I think this loss will hit Spain badly and it will be a real challenge to recover from this. The Netherlands where fantastic and there two stand out players where Robin Van Persie and Arren Roben.

Elsewhere Chile beat Australia by three goals to one and I think that Australia where poor and too reliant on Tim Cahill.

The Aussies seem to lack a little bit of pace and creativity. This was a surprise because four years ago they had a strong squad.

Day two had it's suprises and I hope that teams watching of these matches realise that there is no hiding place and they need to step up.

Premiership review - 01/02/2014

In yesterday premiership games Tottenham drew one all with Hull and this was not a good a result for Tottenham.

As they are vying for a Champions League spot so this would have been as a vitally dropped points.

Stoke City beat Man United by two goals to one and this was a shock result. Man United have added Juan Mata to their squad and both Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney where back from injury so I thought the worst of their problems was behind them.

However they had a weakened defence with Rio Ferdinand injured and Nemanja Vidic suspended they where not at full strength but all credit to Stoke for pulling off this incredible result.

Champions League - Tuesday round up

Champion league group stages started yesterday with both Manchester United and Manchester City in action.

Man United beat Bayer Leverkusen four goals to two and as the score line suggest.

It was no means an easy match for Man United and when Bayer scored the equaliser you could feel the collective groan via twitter.

I don't think there was ever any real danger of them losing especially as they were playing at home.

So when Van Persie, Rooney and Valencia each scored a goal that helped to calm the nerves of any worried fans.

Manchester City had a much more comprehensive victory beating Viktoria Plzen three goals to nil.

To be fair I  have never heard of this team Viktoria Plzen but Man City did well to avoid an embarrassing loss.
